Balfour Castle is the most northerly castle in the world.

The castle can be seen on your sail into Shapinsay as it sits atop a wooded brae a few hundred yards from the sea.  A multi-turreted Victorian structure, it is imbued with a quiet elegance.

As a guest of the castle, you will have access to its main rooms, the dining room, the drawing room with adjoining conservatory, chapel and library. The bedrooms have canopied four poster and brass beds with most rooms having en-suite facilities.  A family room is also available.

The castle is situated in a wooded area and guests are welcome to wander there if they so wish.  You will come upon a two acre walled kitchen garden where most of the vegetables for dinner are grown.
The castle is now a private family home which is open to guests looking for a different type of holiday accommodation.  It has its original furniture and dates back to the 1840's.
